Mission Statement

We’re on a mission here at Reef Playground. One rooted in our company culture.

We’re on a mission here at Reef Playground. One rooted in our company culture. We believe we have a pretty unique view when it comes to aquatic life on our lil blue planet. From what we see, the world's aquatic ecosystems are falling apart. We see it every day in the amount of fish, coral, and other animals that are stripped out of the lakes and oceans. We see mass die off of some of the world's most pristine reefs. We see utter destruction and pollution of the most beautiful places that we try and imitate in our own aquariums. And we’re frankly tired of it. So rather than just sitting on our asses, we’ve decided to do something about it.

And here's our game plan.
  1. Change the way we source our livestock. From freshwater to saltwater, we are making a concerted effort to only source aquacultured livestock. Over the years, we’ve seen dozens of animals that were once readily available turn into some of the hardest to find and expensive animals in the hobby. Overfishing is a REAL problem! Stopping the collection of animals from the world's reefs is the most direct and effective way of putting those ecosystems on the path to recovery, and we’re planning on doing everything we can to help.
  2. Change the way we filter our water. Most of the ways to obtain “good” water for saltwater aquariums involves the creation of a lot, and we mean A LOT of, “wastewater”. Typically, for every gallon of useable water created, there's a gallon of water that literally just goes down the drain. What a waste! We’ve stopped this practice and instead are developing different aquarium filtration techniques that create healthy water environments for our customers aquariums without all the waste.
  3. Give back. Our company wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for what we pull from rivers, lakes and oceans. We believe that giving what time, energy, and capital we can to the many different wildlife conservation and educational organizations is not only the right thing to do, but is the required thing to do for everyone in our industry. Its our responsibility to help ensure that the world's aquatic ecosystems are here for future generations. And we’d be total dicks if we didn't make that happen.
So with every aquarium we lease, every pond we maintain, and every fountain we keep squeaky clean, we’re working to preserve everything we can and rebuild what's been destroyed.
