Algae Control trick for Freshwater Aquariums
Published May 7, 2013
So I thought I’d share a lil trick we here at Reef Playground Inc. use for some stubborn free-floating algae problems in freshwater aquariums.
Now there are a few things to consider before doing this yourself.
A) Its designed to combat free-floating algae blooms
B) We only use this on freshwater, non-planted aquariums.
C) The aquarium cannot contain any scaleless fish or any tetras.
Now if you need a way to get rid of algae blooms in something like an african cichlid aquarium that’s right next to the window, here’s the easy trick; Kordon’s Rid Ich.
Yes, this anti-parasitic medication for freshwater and saltwater aquariums is also a great algaecide in freshwater aquariums.
We encounter new clients with this problem dozens of times a year. Over the years, we have found that Rid Ich does the best job at killing free floating algae when you compare it to pretty much every over the counter algaecide sold today. A simple 25%-75% water change(depending on individual aquarium parameters), followed by a standard dose of Rid Ich followed by another 25%-75% water change does the trick every single time.
Try it yourself, let us know how it worked for you.
