Mandatory equipment you want for your home fountain
Published Oct 13, 2020
Having the right equipment on hand is key to having a great looking fountain. Here’s a short list of what we recommend you always have on hand:
1: Aquarium Net – Nothing big, something like a 6″ wide aquarium net will be perfect for most home fountains. A coarse net will be easier to work with when removing debris, especially if your fountain sits near a tree or in a high wind area.
2: Hard bristle brush – Super important for removal of surface alages during regular maintenance as well as cleaning out all the nooks and crannies of your pump and filter.
3: Wire brush – Needed for cleaning out any tubing , especiall anything that has a 90 degree elbow and has a higher risk of clogging.
4: Pond algaecide – We love liquid pond alagecides for pet friendly fountains. API’s Algaefix is great, as is Aquascapes SAB.
5: Bleach Blocks – If pets arent involved, 1″ and 3″ bleach blocks make keeping your fountain soooooooo easy.
6: Dry-Vac – This will be the most important and also most expensive thing you’d need for your fountain. We use specialty industrial vacs here at Reef Playground, but a standard 10g kit would work. You’ll just need to empty it out more often.
